German kitchen trends for 2020

Want to give your kitchen a fresh look for the new decade?

No problem. Störmer Kitchens are here to help. As a leading supplier of this world-renowned brand, it’s fair to say, we know a thing or two about impressive German kitchen design.

To give you a little inspiration, here we round up some of the biggest kitchen trends for 2020.

Marble surfaces have made a huge comeback this year, particularly those with strong and unique veining. In fact, the busier the vein pattern, the better! This 2020 kitchen trend is all about creating an interesting feature in the room, whilst adding a touch of luxury and refined elegance.

Our advice is to pair a white marble island with modern rose-gold accessories, such as an oversized mixer tap and recessed handles. This will create a beautiful focal point for the centre of your kitchen.

Alternatively, if you’d prefer to keep things a little more understated, opt for matt grey units and add either a marble worktop or a few marble effect accessories (e.g. kettle, microwave, plates).

2. Dark colours

At one point, black was deemed an accent colour – something that should be used sparingly in the kitchen to create contrast. But now, it’s taking centre stage. ‘Dark drama’ is one of the biggest kitchen trends for 2020. Most cabinetry and kitchen units are available in matt and high-gloss black and, when incorporated correctly, they create a striking yet sophisticated design.

One idea is to adopt a monochrome theme. Use a combination of black and white kitchen units and opt for a textured wooden style. That way, you can achieve the ‘dramatic’ look without losing too much homely charm. We also recommend offsetting the black units with soft grey walls, a couple of house plants, and bronze accessories.

3. Handleless units

German kitchens are designed to be as sleek and smooth as possible. Free-flowing simplicity is at their very core. And, thanks to the introduction of ‘push-to-open doors’, uninterrupted handleless units have become a massive kitchen trend for 2020. These can be applied to both wall and base units, and are a great way to create a contemporary and minimalist look in your kitchen.

A great tip is to choose two or three different colours for your units. Or, you could incorporate recessed handles – perhaps in a contrasting vivid shade of ochre or midnight blue. This will create the same pared-back and streamlined style, whilst also adding a little character to the room.
